The Latin Recording Academy Statement Re: Magín Díaz

November 29, 2017 -- 3:00 pm PST

The Latin Recording Academy® celebrates the 95-year legacy of Magín Díaz, who passed away last night in Las Vegas. His album El Orisha de la Rosa had just received a Latin GRAMMY® for Best Recording Package. The Latin Recording Academy had also planned a recognition to declare Díaz the most experienced nominee in the history of the organization. Unfortunately, it did not occur because Magín was hospitalized.

Magín Díaz will continue to be one of the most important composers of contemporary Colombian folk music. His music has been immortalized by great contemporary artists and is an indispensable aspect of Colombia’s cultural heritage.

Maestro Magín, thank you for leaving behind such an extraordinary musical mark.
