A total of $700,000 are Available for 43 Music Students with Financial Need who are Interested in Latin Music

MIAMI, FL (Dec. 7, 2017) — The Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation® announced today that applications are now open for the Gifted Tuition Scholarships and the Tuition Assistance Scholarships. Talented music students, preferably between the ages of 17-24 years old, with financial constraints, and interested in Latin music are eligible to apply.
The Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation will distribute a maximum total of $700,000 in an effort to foster and support the next generation of extraordinarily talented musicians who will continue the legacy of Latin music and its significant contribution to the world's culture as follows:
One of the Gifted Tuition Scholarships will be awarded by Bettina Bulgheroni, businesswoman, television host and philanthropist. She is committed to education as a mean of development and eradicating poverty. "My deep interest in the education of Latin American youth and the intention of accompanying the work that the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation does in music education, have motivated the creation of the scholarship that bears my name, which will finance the musical career of a talented student," said Bulgheroni.
Esmirna Ortiz, a recipient of the Tuition Assistance Scholarship received $10,000 in 2015, 2016, and 2017 which allowed her to continue her education at the prestigious Berklee College of Music from which she will graduate next spring with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Production & Engineering and Piano Performance.
"I am incredibly grateful to the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation for supporting part of my education," said Ortiz. "The Foundation's scholarships have allowed me to pursue my dreams without limitations, the organization been instrumental to my success. Thanks to their assistance I will be graduating soon, and cannot wait to begin my professional career."
The Foundation's Scholarship Committee is tasked with carefully evaluating a highly competitive pool of young and aspiring musicians on a variety of skills and rigorous policies.
To date, more than 100 scholarships totaling a remarkable $2.5 million has been gifted by the Foundation, which continues to support Latin music in various ways, such as by recognizing and funding individuals both beginning and continuing their music education.
"We are eager to start reviewing the applications of tomorrow’s music makers," said Manolo Díaz, Sr. Vice President, Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation. "There is an extraordinary amount of talent within our community, and it is a great source of pride to be able to make education accessible to students who are passionate about Latin music. We want to give these individuals the opportunity to achieve their dreams, as well as share their gifts with the industry and the world."
Applications and Guidelines are available at LatinGRAMMYCulturalFoundation.com. As part of the process, students must complete two audition videos, submit two letters of recommendation and answer two essay questions. The materials can be submitted in English, Spanish or Portuguese. The deadline to apply is April 10, 2018, by 11:59 p.m. ET (United States time).
